It Takes Some Sparkle

Cheerleaders put on their annual cheer clinic with the theme, ” It takes a lot of sparkle to be a cheerleader”.

The annual Okawville High School Cheer Clinic took place on January 25th and 26th, and with no surprise, the turnout was no less than stellar. With 72 girls ranging from grades pre-k all the way up to 8th grade, this year’s clinic was filled with smiles, jumps, and lots of sass. The Pre-K and Kindergarten group danced to the song “ Ready for it?” by Taylor Swift. The 1st – 3rd Grade group danced to the song “ Sorry not Sorry” by Demi Lovato, and the 4th grade through 8th grade group danced to the song “Problem” by Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea. Along with the dances, the participants performed either two sideline cheers ( pre-K through 3rd grade) or a floor cheer ( 4th- 8th grade).  The cheerleaders have been preparing for this clinic for about a month, and they came up with the dances themselves. Senior cheerleader Erin Wiedwilt states that “ I enjoyed working with my group this year. This clinic is always fun because we can make up our own dances, and spend time with the girls.” Every year the cheer clinic has a new saying for the clinic. This saying is on the t-shirts worn by the cheerleaders during the practice day, and the participants on the performance day.  This year’s saying was ” It takes a lot of sparkle to be a cheerleader”.
