Wheat Streak 5K to Benefit Cross Country and Track

Gabriel Charles, JH Staff Writer

The Wheat Streak is a 5K race (3.2 miles) that funds the Okawville High School Cross Country and Track teams. The proceeds go towards things like new uniforms and improvements for track equipment.

The Wheat Streak has always taken place the Saturday morning of the Wheat Festival, starting at 8 a.m. This year it was on September 18. Members of the Cross Country team attended the race to help out early in the morning. They helped in various different ways such as handing out water at the water station, signing people in, getting people their shirts, putting barriers out, handing out snacks, milk, or water at the end, running the Fun Run with the little kids, and just simply cheering people on.

The Wheat Streak is the cross country and track teams only fundraiser, and it is a big help for their needs.
