Laura Cook, Junior High Editor

As‌ ‌we‌ ‌all‌ ‌know,‌ ‌Halloween‌ ‌is‌ ‌just‌ ‌around‌ ‌the‌ ‌corner.‌ ‌Decorations‌ ‌have‌ ‌long‌ ‌been‌
put‌ ‌up,‌ ‌and‌ ‌spirits‌ ‌are‌ ‌rising‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌historic‌ ‌October‌ ‌31.‌ ‌Mr.‌ ‌Kramer‌ ‌came‌ ‌up‌ ‌with‌
the‌ ‌idea‌ ‌for‌ ‌a‌ ‌drawing‌ ‌contest‌ ‌among‌ ‌the‌ ‌students,‌ ‌as‌ ‌well‌ ‌as‌ ‌the‌ ‌teachers.‌ ‌Well,‌ ‌he‌
didn’t‌ ‌genuinely‌ ‌come‌ ‌up‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌idea,‌ ‌but‌ ‌more‌ ‌of‌ ‌borrowed‌ ‌it‌ ‌from‌ ‌a‌ ‌friend‌ ‌who‌ ‌had‌
challenged‌ ‌him‌ ‌to‌ ‌a‌ ‌whole‌ ‌calendar‌ ‌of‌ ‌prompts‌ ‌to‌ ‌draw‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌month‌ ‌of‌ ‌Halloween.‌ ‌
Mr.‌ Kramer‌ ‌thought‌ ‌that‌ ‌it‌ ‌would‌ ‌be‌ ‌a‌ ‌way‌ ‌for‌ ‌Jr.‌ ‌High‌ ‌students‌ ‌to‌ ‌participate‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌art‌ ‌program,‌ ‌who‌ ‌don’t‌ ‌have‌ ‌any‌ ‌other‌ ‌chance‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌school‌ ‌for‌ ‌an‌ ‌artistic‌ ‌outlet.‌ ‌He‌ ‌also‌ ‌used‌ ‌this‌ ‌idea‌ ‌to‌ ‌spread‌ ‌the‌ ‌Halloween‌ ‌cheer,‌ ‌because‌ ‌Halloween‌ ‌is‌ ‌a‌ ‌student‌ ‌favorite.‌
“It’s‌ ‌something‌ ‌that‌ ‌people‌ ‌need‌ ‌right‌ ‌now,”‌ ‌Mr.‌ ‌Kramer‌ ‌says.‌ ‌The‌ ‌prompts‌ ‌that‌ ‌have‌
been‌ ‌drawn‌ ‌are‌ ‌Spider,‌ ‌Nightmare,‌ ‌Frankenstein,‌ ‌and‌ ‌Scarecrow.‌ ‌He‌ ‌gets‌ ‌his‌ ‌prompts‌
from‌ ‌a‌ ‌calendar‌ ‌online‌ ‌that‌ ‌circulates‌ ‌ideas.‌ ‌So,‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌idea‌ ‌posted,‌ ‌he‌ ‌wondered‌ ‌how‌
many‌ ‌students‌ ‌would‌ ‌give‌ ‌it‌ ‌a‌ ‌chance‌ ‌and‌ ‌participate‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌fun‌ ‌challenge.‌ ‌To‌ ‌Mr.‌
Kramer’s‌ ‌excitement,‌ ‌several‌ ‌students‌ ‌and‌ ‌teachers‌ ‌took‌ ‌up‌ ‌a‌ ‌chance‌ ‌to‌ ‌show‌ ‌off‌ ‌their‌
art‌ ‌skills,‌ ‌or‌ ‌even‌ ‌try‌ ‌out‌ ‌drawing‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌first‌ ‌time.‌ ‌Both‌ ‌he‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌students‌ ‌are‌ ‌enjoying‌ looking‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌variety‌ ‌of‌ ‌styles,‌ ‌skill‌ ‌levels,‌ ‌and‌ ‌creative‌ ‌ideas‌ ‌that‌ ‌are‌ ‌put‌ ‌into‌ ‌these‌ ‌drawings.‌ ‌The‌ ‌participants‌ ‌continue‌ ‌to‌ ‌impress‌ ‌him‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌amazingly‌ ‌innovative‌ ‌artwork,‌ ‌and‌ ‌blow‌ ‌him‌ ‌away‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌number‌ ‌of‌ ‌entrees‌ ‌to‌ ‌this‌ ‌competition.‌
‌All‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌different‌ ‌prompts‌ ‌and‌ ‌drawings‌  ‌continue‌d ‌to‌ ‌hang‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌walls‌ ‌by‌ ‌the‌ ‌bathrooms‌ ‌nearest‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌office‌ ‌until‌ ‌the‌ ‌end‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌month.‌
“I‌ ‌would‌ ‌like‌ ‌to‌ ‌thank‌ ‌everyone‌ ‌for‌ ‌participating‌ ‌and‌ ‌putting‌ ‌so‌ ‌much‌ ‌effort‌ ‌into‌
these‌ ‌drawings,‌ ‌or‌ ‌even‌ ‌taking‌ ‌time‌ ‌out‌ ‌of‌ ‌your‌ ‌day.‌ ‌The‌ ‌overwhelming‌ ‌numbers‌ ‌of‌ ‌art‌
really‌ ‌do‌ ‌make‌ ‌me‌ ‌happy,”‌ ‌Mr.‌ ‌Kramer‌ ‌said‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌smile,‌ ‌well,‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌smile‌ ‌in‌ ‌his‌ ‌eyes.‌
“The‌ ‌winners‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌competitions‌ ‌will‌ ‌get‌ ‌a‌ ‌special‌ ‌treat,”‌ ‌he‌ ‌didn’t‌ ‌want‌ ‌to‌ ‌spoil‌ ‌the‌
surprise.‌ ‌“And‌ ‌the‌ ‌participants‌ ‌will‌ ‌also‌ ‌each‌ ‌get‌ ‌a‌ ‌little‌ ‌something‌ ‌something,”‌ ‌he‌
promised.‌ ‌There‌ ‌are‌ ‌several‌ ‌winners‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌number‌ ‌of‌ ‌awards‌ ‌such‌ ‌as,‌ ‌‘Lol’,‌
‘Creativity’,‌ ‌‘Wow’,‌ ‌and‌ ‌‘Love‌ ‌it.’ ‌You‌ ‌can‌ ‌see‌ ‌them‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌school’s‌ ‌FaceBook‌ ‌page.‌
