Teacher Spotlight : Mr. Gaebe

Delaney Kuhn, JH Staff Writer

Mr. Rick Gaebe has been a teacher at Okawville for 33 years, and this year will sadly be his last. He currently teaches 6th grade P.E., 8th-grade literature, 7th-grade literature, 8th-grade language arts, and he previously taught 8th-grade civics.

Mr. Gaebe enjoys baseball, and he even had the opportunity to play baseball in college at Rend Lake and SIU-C. He has coached baseball at the 7th and 8th-grade level every year here at Okawville. He also enjoys fishing, specifically trout fishing. This summer he got to go to some rivers in Oregon and fish when he went to visit his sister-in-law. Mr. Gaebe also has a wonderful wife, Mary Beth, whom he has been married to for 30 years. They have one son, Carl who graduated from Okawville High School in 2012.

Mr. Gaebe is trying to make his last year a good one by just soaking it all in and enjoying everything. He states that he will really miss all of the fun that goes along with the school. Although Mr. Gaebe is going to be leaving this year, we are very happy to have had him here for so long and will be missed here at Okawvvile Jr. Sr. High School.
