Jr. Lady Rockets Celebrate 8th Grade Night

Schae Juenger, JH Staff Writer

On Thursday, January 6, the Jr. Lady Rockets played their last regular-season home game.  It was 8th grade night to celebrate the 8th graders’ last regular-season home game for their junior high career. This year’s 8th graders include Caroline Tepe, Lily Helbig, Carly Schmidt, Kate Borrenpohl, Rylan Senior, and Emma Borgmann.  The 6th and 7th graders decorated the gym with orange and blue streamers and balloons.  The 7th graders made each of the 8th graders a poster for their special night.

The Jr. Lady Rockets hosted Sparta.  Okawville was ahead 12-1 after the 1st quarter.  At halftime, the Jr. Lady Rockets picked up the pace even more and led Sparta 25-3.  After the 3rd quarter, the Jr. Lady Rockets were up 38-7.  The final score was 47-8 and the Jr. Lady Rockets got a win for their 8th grade night. The Rockets still have one more regular-season game on January 10th, 2022 at Selmaville.  The Jr. Lady Rockets’ record is 14-9.

I asked 8th grader Lily Helbig how she thought this season has played out?  She responded with, “I think this season has been pretty good, but I am really excited for regionals.”  I then asked 8th grader Rylan Senior how she thinks the team will do in regionals?  She stated, “I think that we will come together as a team, and show everybody what we are made of.”  Good luck to the Jr. Lady Rockets as they compete in regionals!
