On November 9th, 2023 Rockets celebrated Veteran’s Day with an assembly. Local veterans and the general public were welcomed to attend and wear red, white, and blue to show their patriotic support of our Armed Services. The high school band played patriotic music before and after the assembly. The choir sang the National Anthem. The jr./sr. high choir sang “God Bless America”. Mr. Recker and Mr. Zahour played “Taps”. Jewel Meyer and Mr. Zahour, with the Jr./Sr. High Choir, performed “Song for the Unsung Hero”. The K-6 kids sang the armed forces branch anthems/songs. We had U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Cameron Martin come in as a speaker. He talked about how he figured out he wanted to be in the Coast Guard and the struggles that he faced while in training and starting out in the Coast Guard. During the event, the veterans were treated to a presentation of the new flag for the O-Rena, patriotic music, and a reading of the winners of the Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy essays. Annabelle Herzig won the Patriots Pen essay and Laura Cook won the Voice of Democracy essay. Thank you to all of the Veterans who have served us!
