Each year, the Illinois State Board of Education chooses around the top 10% of each graduating class to represent the state as State Scholars. The board determines their candidates by class rank, as well as SAT test scores. The ISBE converted these numbers to an Illinois Standard Rank Score. Students who met a certain benchmark were named State Scholars. This year, four OHS students achieved this honor. This year’s State Scholars are Madison Wienstroer, Lydia Luechtefeld, Bennett Krohne, and Nora Wood. These students have shown great academic achievement over their high school careers, which has paid off with this accomplishment.
As far as continuing their education, each scholar has somewhat of a plan for next fall. Lydia hopes to study psychology at a four-year university. Madi plans to major in marketing/journalism at the University of Mizzou. Nora wishes to major in pathology at an undecided university. Bennett hopes to major in accounting or marketing at either McKendree or SIUE.
Being named a State Scholar is a very amazing accomplishment that not many students get to experience. Congratulations, State Scholars!
