On Saturday, November 4th, the ILMEA Jazz Chorus met at Belleville East High School for their only practice before they performed for an audience. This year was the first year that they decided to have two Jazz Choruses, the Soprano-Alto chorus and the Soprano-Alto-Baritone chorus. From our school, Lucy Pille and Brendan Heizer were in the SopranoAltoBaritone chorus and sang ‘I Loved You’, ‘Blue Skies’, and ‘Sir Duke’. Petra Galliano, Tessa Frantz, Skylar Wilfong, and Ellie Simonton were in the brand new SopranoAlto chorus, and they sang ‘Lullaby of Birdland’, ‘Virtual Insanity’, and ‘It’s All Right’. Reed Recker, the band and chorus director, said, “I love this opportunity for the JH choir students. It is a great opportunity for them to get a little bit of exposure to jazz music. I am so proud of the hard work they put in and really enjoy watching them perform. To come together with a bunch of strangers and put together a concert in half a day is quite impressive!” Hopefully, more people will have this opportunity in the future. Great job singers!
