On August 18, 2023, Michael Bost, a state representative for Illinois, visited Okawville High School and spoke to the high school students present. He is currently the representative for 34 counties in the state of Illinois. Bost, who was sworn into office in early 2015, is working in Washington for the values of Southern Illinois.
Mike graduated from Murphysboro High School, soon after he joined the US Marine Corps, where he served from 1979 to 1982. He received training in electronics and radar maintenance. He spent 13 years as a driver and truck manager for Bost Trucking Service in Murphysboro, which was owned by his family. During his six years as a state representative, he continued to work for the local fire department as a firefighter as well.
Representative Bost participates in the Veterans Affairs, Transportation & Infrastructure, and Agriculture committees in Congress. He is the chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee.
Mike spoke to the OHS students about his life and how he went from a small-town guy to a member of Congress. After Mr. Bost finished speaking, students asked several questions and expressed their interest in hearing about his accomplishments.
