FFA has started the year off strong in their competitions.
On September 15, FFA traveled to SIUC to compete in Horse Judging. As a team, they placed 3rd overall and 2nd in Section 22. Kate Borrenpohl placed the highest on the team. She placed 6th overall and 4th in Section 22 with a score of 273. Madison Gogoleck placed 5th in Section 22 with a score of 273. Izzy Howard placed 6th in Section 22 with a score of 270. Lily Helbig and Owen Lairson were also on the team.
Their next competition was Ag Sales and Waterloo High School. Okawville had 3 students participate in Ag Sales. They were Madison Gogoleck, Abby Brennfleck, and Izzy Howard. Izzy Howard placed 13th overall and highest on the team with a score of 147. Abby Brennfleck placed 19th overall with a score of 128. Madison Gogoleck placed 22nd overall with a score of 107. There were 23 people that competed in this competition. The team placed 6th in the section with an overall score of 498 points.
Next, the FFA went to SIUC to judge and work together in a Food Science competition. There were different things you had to do. First, you had to create a nutrition label with your teammates. Then, you went to another building and took a math test over calculations, did a hands-on aroba quiz, a food taste testing triangle test, and took a customer complaint quiz. Okawville had 5 people participate. Lily Helbig, Kate Borrenpohl, Abby Brennfleck, and Izzy Howard were on Varsity. Michael Marler was on JV. Kate Borrenpohl placed 5th overall and 3rd in Section 22 with a score of 131. Lily Helbig placed 10th overall and 6th in Section 22 with a score of 124. Abby didn’t place overall but placed 10th in Section 22 with a score of 103. Izzy Howard didn’t place overall but placed 14th in Section 22 with a score of 98. Michael Marler had a score of 74 for the JV team.
After that, Okawville participated in State land use at SWIC College. Members of the Varsity team were Kate Borrenpohl, Izzy Howard, Braxton Rennegarbe, and Madison Gogolek. Members of the JV team were Nick Williams, Mark Marler, and Mae Procasky. The Varsity team placed 30th with a score of 726. Kate Borrenpohl placed highest on the team with a score of 262. Izzy Howard had a score of 233. Braxton Rennegarbe with a score of 231. Finally, Madison Gogoleck with a score of 220. The JV team placed 6th with a score of 515. Nick Williams placed highest on the team with a score of 198. Mark Marler had a score of 183. Finally, Mae Procasky had a score of 134.
The next day the chapter officers, traveled to Rend Lake College for Farm Bureau Day to have a lesson about Edicate Dinner. The officers included Madison Gogolek, Lily Helbig, Kate Borrenpohl, and Abby Brennfleck. 3 first-year members, Izzy Howard, Owen Lairson, and Lacy Vuichard, participated in a Greenhand Quizbowl hosted by Red Bud. The team placed 4th overall. That same night, Lily Helbig participated in a Section 22 Job Interview. She placed 6th out of 13 with a score of 564. Also, Kate Borrenpohl participated in Section 22 Ag Ed the same night at Red Bud. She placed 10th out of 10. There was no score due to them not announcing that night.
