On February 17, the 7th grade volleyball team was at the Red Bud Volleyball Tournament. The first game they played was at 11:00 in Gym B where they played their first team, Red Bud Grade School. Okawville won the first set, with the score being 21-15. Okawville won the second set with 21-11.
Their next game was at 1 pm against Evansville. Okawville won the first set with 21-15. Evansville won the second set with 21-18. Finally, with the last set going to fifteen, Okawville fought back and won 15-7.
At 2 pm, Okawville played St. John’s Lutheran School. Okawville won the first set and the score was 21-12. Okawville won the second set with 21-17.
Okawville played in the championship for their last game. It started at 4 pm and was against Coulterville. Coulterville won the first set with 21-19, but that didn’t get Okawville down. Okawville won the second set with 21-10. It was a close match but Okawville won with 15-13! The Okawville Rockets placed 1st in the tournament. They couldn’t have done it without their amazing volleyball team and coaches.
Both of the captains were very proud of their team. Captain Josephine Schmersahl said, “We did a good job. We made our serves over, and we all had lots of fun. I’m proud of how we did and how we stayed resilient throughout the games we struggled with. We do need to work on our receiving and stay more confident in ourselves. We did a great job and I can’t wait for our next games to come.”
