Okawville High School is hosting its annual prom dance for its juniors and seniors on Saturday, April 27th. The dance is held at the Okawville Community Club across the street from the high school building, starting at 8 pm and ending at 11 pm. The prom theme this year is Tangled in Memories, referring to the Disney movie Tangled. The junior class officers have been working hard to ensure prom is a success. Isaiah Auer made the after-prom shirts and was in charge of the snacks for the dance. Laura Cook created the tickets and invitations, as well as came up with the prom week dress-up days. Caleigh Friedrich and Sidney Charles planned the decorations for the dance too, which will include flowers, lanterns, and several photo spots. The junior class sponsors have also dedicated their time to helping the students plan, including Mr. Kenow, Mrs. Fuhrman, and Mrs. Kremmer.
During prom week at OHS, there was a designated dress-up day for the students to participate in. Monday was wear your pajamas to school day. Tuesday was white lies day, where the students wrote on a white shirt a funny lie about themselves (ex: “I am a good driver”). Wednesday was rhyme without reason, where students will pick a partner and dress up as things that rhyme (ex: Lightning McQueen and Mr. Clean). Thursday was anything but a backpack day, where students would bring their school supplies in anything but their backpacks, like a stroller or shopping cart. Lastly, Friday was camo day.
All upperclassmen are allowed to bring one underclassman or an out-of-town guest to prom. Both the Okawville student and guest had to submit a signed contract, one for both prom and after prom. After the dance, the students will head back over to the high school for their annual after-prom from 12 am to 5 am. There, the prom participants will have a fun night filled with games, food, and prizes. Several parents of OHS students have put together games and activities for the attendees to compete for points. There will be a hypnotist, and students who volunteer will get the opportunity to be hypnotized in front of the crowd. Card games, pickleball, wiffle ball, nine square, human bowling, trivia, and a golf simulator and obstacle course are a fraction of the games that will be offered. By playing games, students will earn points; the better students do in the games the more points they will be awarded. At the end of the night, based on the most points earned to the least, students will be called one by one to pick out their prizes. The prizes include anything from home appliances to gift baskets to money. Every after-prom attendee is guaranteed to go home with a prize. The students attending prom are guaranteed a fun night with their lifelong friends, fun games, and amazing prizes, which will be the perfect way to end the school year!
