After a packed schedule, the girls’ track team ended last week with a major victory over some big teams. The win was the result of some impressive showings from many of the athletes. The girls swept most of the relays earning first place in the 4x800m, 4x100m, and the 4x400m. The other first-place finishes were Caroline Tepe in the 800m and Lydia Luechtefeld in the 300m Hurdles. Additional notable performances included: Lauren Haacke earning third in the 400m, Sidney Charles with second place and a PR in the 3200m, Alyssa Statler getting third in the 100m Hurdles, Nora Wood winning third in shot put and second in discus (PRing in both), and Aubrey Krieger and Caroline Tepe tying for second in Triple Jump (both earning a PR). The boys’ team had a few great finishes as well. Their 4x800m won first place, Landed Shubert took second in the High Jump, and Zander Hasheider earned second place in the 3200m.
The team competed again on Wednesday, April 17th in Chester for the Rocky Bridges Invitational. Once again, the girls’ team took first place. They finished first in the 4x800m relay, the 4x100m relay, and the 4x400m relay and took second in the 4x200m relay. The girls did great individually as well with first places for Caroline Tepe in the 800m and Triple Jump, Lydia Luechtefeld in the 100m and 300m Hurdles, Sidney Charles in the 3200m, and Alyssa Statler in the 100m Hurdles. Lauren Haacke, Nora Wood, and Madisyn Rennegarbe also racked up some points for their team with second place in their events. Showing good effort, the boys’ team ended up in third place. Some performed well including Ryker Obermeier with first in the 800m and third in the 1600m, Nolan Frantz sweeping both the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles, Landen Shubert earning second in High Jump, and Gabe Charles making school history and taking third as the school’s first male Pole Vaulter. The boys’ team also won the 4x400m relay in an exciting race by just a tenth of a second.
Okawville’s most recent meet took place on Friday, April 19th in Sparta for the Buzz Bradley Invitational. The girls’ team was unable to claim the win, however, they placed second among some tough schools. The girls fought hard with Caroline Tepe placing first in the 800m, Alyssa Statler winning first in the 100m Hurdles, Lydia Luechtefeld taking first in the 300m Hurdles, Payton Meier placing second in the High Jump, the 4x100m and 4x400m relay taking first, and the 4x800m relay finishing second. The boys had a tougher meet, but Nolan Frantz still took first in both the 100m Hurdles and the 300m Hurdles.
The Okawville Track Team is in a great position as they get closer to the end of the season. “The athletes have exceeded my expectations this year, and many of them are working hard to complete a superior season. We are fortunate to have a great group of dedicated young people,” stated track coach, DeAnna Holm. This team has put in a lot of effort this year, and it might just pay off. Best of luck to the team on their next meet!
