We have a new teacher at the Okawville Grade School! His name is Mr. Cockrell, and he works with kids K-2 who need extra help in classes. He has lived outside of St. Libory for 20 years. Before working here, he worked at a school in Freeburg. While in Freeburg, he worked as a resource math teacher for high school students needing extra help. He came here because it was close to home, and he likes the community here at Okawville. “I feel like having the support of the community was a big driving force too,” he explained. He graduated from McKendree University with a bachelor’s degree in “Science of Education.” He also works part-time at the tractor supply company in Belleville.
He lives on a farm with his parents and some pets/farm animals, including 3 dogs, at least 20 barn cats, 2 donkeys, 3 cows, and many chickens. Outside of working at the school, he enjoys hanging out with friends and playing sports. His favorite sport is basketball, but he also enjoys baseball. He enjoys these sports because he played them while he was growing up. His favorite book/movie series is Harry Potter, which he is currently trying to finish reading. We wish Mr. Cockrell a great year at OGS!
