Okawville is welcoming Ms. Young as the new grade school music teacher. Ms. Young comes from Salem, Illinois. She is fun, hard-working, and diligent. She teaches kindergarten through sixth-grade music class while also teaching the after-school choir program, which is offered to fourth through sixth graders.
Even though this is her first year teaching music, Ms. Young hopes to improve the grade school music program. Her plans include more challenging music, stability, and growing the after-school choir program. She will help the high school side with pep band and band camp. She has a unique way of organizing her classroom, which her students love. The student’s favorite part of her classroom is no chairs. Instead, their “assigned seats” are numbers on the ceiling. The lack of seats gives them movement, which they love. When asked what her favorite thing about OGS is, she said, “The kids have been awesome.” Ms. Young is always seen with a smile, and Okawville is grateful to have her.
