While everyone was having fun throughout the summer, the Okawville FFA chapter has been keeping busy. First, they had their officer elections for the new 2024/2025 Okawville FFA Officers. This year we had Lily Helbig (President), Abby Brennfleck (Vice President), Hunter Kolweier (Secretary), KateLyn Borrenpohl (Treasurer), Izzy Howard (Reporter), Braxton Rennegarbe (Sentinel), Madison Gogolek (Historian), Owen Lairson (Parliamentarian), and Colten Kampwerth (Chaplain). During the summer we put together corn boxes for the Heritage Days and the new event, Beach Blast, this year. Top Ag generously donated the corn to put in the boxes so all the kids could have a little fun. Then, in between that, they put together a plant sale, that throughout several years the horticulture class has been working hard to make sure the plants were watered and healthy.
Since summertime is over, they now have a few projects in progress. Closer to the beginning of the school year, they have had a few officer meetings to get them prepared for the school year. They ended up getting t-shirt and hoodie designs together so FFA members and their supporters could buy them to show their support. Since shirts have been ordered, now it’s time to start preparing for Wheat Fest. They finally got our theme, “Earthquake,” for the parade’s theme of Mother Nature’s Phenomenon.
Last week they already had a competition called the Farmyard Follies held at the DuQuoin State Fair. There, members competed against other schools in activities such as tug-of-war, backseat driver, bail toss, etc.. This was the first time since Mr. Berg started teaching that FFA has been to this event. They got 30th out of 41 teams! There are definitely more fun and competitions coming in the near future.
