School is currently in full swing and we have a new batch of 7th graders that are probably wondering “What clubs can I join?” This year, 7th graders are able to join FCA, Launch Pad, Student Council, and Junior High Yearbook. Junior high students are also able to join Drama Club near the end of the year, and may be able to join Jazz Band next year.
Fellowship of Christain Athletes/FCA
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an organization for those under the Christian faith to come together through religious activities like prayer groups, donuts and devotion, Meet You at the Pole and Fields of Faith events, and lastly, various community service events. It’s registration was already held this year, so you should wait to join. The sponsors of the organization are Christy Hood and Reed Recker.
The FCA was started in 1954 by the Eastern Oklahoma A&M basketball coach, Don McClanen, and has been going strong at our school for over 40 years. Our FCA branch has been funded by fundraisers and private donations for years and is considered big with us having over 50 students involved.
Jazz Band
Jazz Band is an exclusive club for high school students, but, on occasion, can be opened to talented Junior high students if they are low on participants. Unfortunately, according to Mr. Recker, the Jazz Band director, it won’t be opened to JH students for 2024. Although, there is always next year to hope for!
Launch Pad
This article you’re reading right now is written by the Launch Pad staff! Launch Pad is the official newspaper of the school and post on our own website. Students will interview and write stories about events around school. Launch Pad accepts both Junior High and High School students. Launch Pad has already begun, but we are still accepting new members!
Yearbook
The JH yearbook staff is the team behind the K-8 yearbook. Students take pictures of events at school and put them together in the yearbook, they also work concessions at sports games and work the pie stand at Wheatfest. They are still accepting new members and this year they are currently working on the 77th edition.
Student Council
The Student Council is a governing body for students! Each class has four representatives and there are 4 reps for the JH part of the club. They handle things like Homecoming, assemblies, and various community service projects. The voting and acceptance meeting has already been done, but there’s always next year.
Although you might not want to join a club and stick to what you know, never be afraid to exit your comfort zone! Have an amazing school year Junior High students!
