On August 15, the Student Leadership Team and Mr. Rakers hosted an assembly to make sure students knew the correct rules so they could start this year off right. The SLT put together a slideshow of all of the rules and regulations of the school. SLT stands for Student Leadership Team and the students who are on it get nominated by the teachers and staff. The SLT consists of seniors; Aidan Anderson, Isaiah Auer, Sidney Charles, Claire Dulle, Caleigh Friedrich, Calvin Maynard, Payton Meier, and Parker Wiese, juniors; Kate Borrenpohl, Caroline Tepe, Aubrey Krieger, Ryker Obermeier, and Lily Helbig, sophomores; Addi Hasheider, Gabe Charles, Schae Juenger, and Brynn Rhodes, and freshman; Maddie Dulle and Ayden Foley.
Everyone was grouped with another person to complete the slideshow. Isaiah and Claire were partnered together to talk about parking lot rules. They included a skit of Mrs. Donovan and Señora showing the kids what not to do. It is important to be respectful to the community and the school when parking in the parking lot.
Next, Aidan and Addi talked about Cafeteria Rules. They talked about cleaning up after yourself and behaving in the lunchroom. They also showed a skit.
After that, Lily and Aubrey presented the rules over tardies and attendance. They talked about how important it is to show up to school and showed some quotes and videos. The presentation showed that it is hard to get good grades and be active in school when you’re not at school.
Next, Kate and Ayden talked about Chromebook rules. They presented a live skit on how to put away your Chromebook correctly. Chromebooks are important for learning but aren’t always taken seriously, and we must do.
Then, Gabe and Schae talked about Social Media and how it impacts you and your day-to-day life. They showed a few videos and talked about how important it is to not put hateful words on social media.
After that, Caleigh talked about respect and how respect is important to everyone in the building. Profanity isn’t allowed during school and spending too much time in the bathroom is disrespectful towards the teachers. This year there will also be bathroom patrol by Mr. Rakers and Mrs. Schliefer.
Mr. Rakers talked about bullying and how it isn’t allowed and isn’t taken lightly in our school. Bullying, referred to as the “B” word, is nothing to joke about. There are always two sides to the story and both are taken into consideration.
Mr. Rakers also has two new words for the year. One was given by the SLT, and the other was given by the faculty and administration. The word “Integrity” was given by the SLT. The SLT chose this word because it is always important to be honest and true to yourself, even when no one is watching. The administration chose the word “Believe” because here at OJSHS our administration believes in us to do great things and that we will do what needs to be done to get through the year.
Next, Brynn and Parker talked about the dress code. It is important to wear clothes that aren’t distracting during the school day. They showed videos during the presentation on appropriate attire.
Payton and Sidney talked about the new expectations for drinks at OJSHS. This year, any form of caffeine will not be allowed after 1st hour. This is to better our students and keep them healthy in our school. They also talked about Snack Cart. Snack Cart happens every Monday and Wednesday during 5th hour. It is provided by the life skills class.
After that, Maddie and Calvin discussed Phones, Watches, and Earbuds. None of them are to be allowed during school. If you are caught with them they will be taken and a parent must pick the item up in the office.
Lastly, Caroline and Ryker talked about mental health. At OJSHS, we care about the student’s mental health, and it is important to express to at least one person a problem if you are having one. You should also report if you are concerned about another person’s mental health. We hope everyone has a great school year at OJSHS!
