On Saturday, September 7, the Science Club partnered with the Okawville Lions Club and helped them pick up trash by the Okawville Interstate Exit. There were fifteen Science Club members and six Lions Club members. They met at 8 AM at the Okawville Dairy Queen parking lot. It was a chilly morning and everyone was provided gloves, a high-visibility vest, and a trash bag. Everyone split up into partners and began to pick up along Highway 177 and made their way to the exit ramps on Interstate 64. The Science Club does this the weekend before the Wheat Festival every year to prepare for extra visitors in town. It makes a big difference to our environment and the appearance of our area. The Science Club members who volunteered were able to realize how much and what kinds of trash people throw out. It will make them rethink about littering in the future.
