Once again Timepiece had a successful year. Each year for the Timepiece fundraiser the members of the club sell pies at the Okawville Wheat Fest. This is no quick and easy process, however. First, the team meets at the Okawville Senior Center and makes the pie dough the Friday before Wheat Fest. This usually takes a few hours with about twenty members doing various jobs. Some get the ingredients ready, some weigh the dough to make sure each pie is the same, and others label cartons that the pies will eventually be put in. The next day these members meet at that school and roll dough to get the pies ready. Finally, it’s the week of Wheat Fest. The Thursday before and the Friday of Wheat Fest the Timepiece members all meet at the school to make filling and toppings for pies. This is also when the first pies are baked. Finally Friday through Sunday Timepiece gets to see all their hard work pay off.
Not only does Timepiece make pies, but it also makes chili, coffee, hot dogs, iced tea, nachos, and chili dogs. This year Timepiece made about 150 pies. However, they did lose a few due to the apples being too juicy and the diabetic chocolate not set. Even though they faced a few minor setbacks they still managed to make 2000-2500, which is the most profit they have ever made! I asked Dana Donovan, who is the advisor of Timepiece, her thoughts on the Pie Stand. She responded with, “ I think this was one of our best years! Our profits were good, our expenses stayed pretty low, and the yearbook staff were amazing. We also wanted to thank all the students who helped us and earned their service hours.” She also wanted to give a special thank you to Tammy and Fred Klapetsky, Mike Savard, Kevin and Shelly Kenow, Okawville Community Church Members, Okawville Senior Center, Joyce Borrenpohl, Molly Rosnick, Diann Brammeier, Kathy Shubert, Caryssa Kennelly, Daniel Simonton, OHS kitchen staff, OHS faculty, and Old Exchange National Bank.
