The OHS band participated in the Little Egypt parade. Our band is marching in 3 parades this school year; the Wheat Festival parade, the Little Egypt parade, and the Mardi Gras parade in Pinckneyville. Our newest OGS band teacher, Ms. Young, recommended that Mr. Recker enter the band in the Little Egypt parade. This is because Ms. Young is from the town of Salem.
The Little Egypt parade takes place annually on the first Saturday in October. The band will be playing Y.M.C.A and parts of Patriotic Parade Sequence, fitting for the theme, ‘Music to My Ears’. The parade has a longer route than the Wheat Festival but is shorter than the Mardi Gras parade. OHS will be judged in this parade and graded on their marching skills and how well they play.
If this goes well for the band, they hope to participate in this parade in future years. Additionally, they are grateful that the community came to Salem to support them and gave their parade recognition.
