Last Thursday, in Pinckneyville, the cross-country team ran at Lake Sallateeska. The Rockets ran through the forest, and up and down many hills. Both teams placed well, with the boys in third and the girls in fourth. Additionally, many runners scored. Amazingly, every runner on the boys’ team placed. In the varsity race, runners in the top twenty-five were awarded t-shirts. The Rockets who placed were Thor Gavin in twenty-third, Nolan Frantz placed twentieth, Will Tepe placed fifteenth, Kaden Buehler placed thirteenth, and Ryker Obermeier placed eighth.
Additionally, the alternates did well. Gabe Charles placed twenty-fourth with Xander Hashider behind him. The open race runners did well too, with Oliver Gaubatz and Clay Maynard placing in the top five; Calvin Maynard was a close sixth. In the girls’ race, Caroline Tepe won first place with a time of 20:00. More runners who placed in the girl’s race were Katelyn Gogolek in twenty-fifth, Kaylee Wolf placed nineteenth, and Sidney Charles in fourteenth.
The Rockets ran well in the Benton 1A showcase last Saturday. The boys’ team scored sixth out of eleven, and the girls placed fourth out of eight. Both boys and girls had many personal records, and many runners placed individually in the top 25. Out of the girls’ race, Kaylee Wolf placed 23rd, Sidney Charles placed 18th, Caroline Tepe placed second, and Ryker Obermeier placed 18th in the boys’ race. Alyssa Statler, Paige Kolweier, Oliver Gaubatz, Calvin Maynard, and Clayton Maynard ran in the open races.
