On October 12, Okawville hosted the annual Chilli-Cookoff sponsored by the Okawville Chamber of Commerce. Multiple OHS organizations helped out at the Chilli-Cookoff. For instance, the Student Leadership Team ran the soda stand. They helped sell soda and water to people at the Chilli-Cookoff. The Class of 2027 had their stand where they sold apple nachos, frozen hot chocolate (due to the warm weather), and candied pecans. The Class of 2026 took care of the trash cans. They changed them when they were full and picked up any trash lying around. The Okawville FFA provided a corn box for kids to play in. The Tri-M Honor Society also provided face painting for the kids. There is a contest every year for which kid has the best-painted pumpkin. The K & Under age group winner was Avery Rabenort. The 1st-3rd grade winner was Kamdyn Paul. The 4th-6th grade winner was Maylen Kramper. The Miss Okawviile Queen’s Choice award winner, chosen by Bella Welch and Bailey Recker, was Bretsyn Paul. The winners of the best chili were in 1st place was Happily Ever Crafter, 2nd place was Okawville American Legion, 3rd place was Old Exchange Bank, and the People’s Choice winner was Immanuel Lutheran School. There is also an award for Best Decorated Booth which went to Riechmann Bros. Overall, the Chilli Cookoff had a lot to offer with the Lion’s Club also providing a Halloween movie for the kids. There was plenty of food, drinks, and activities for all ages to enjoy.
