Dr. Poo’s House Museum went on the real estate market on November 1st. The house was built in 1888 and purchased by Dr. Poo. The Heritage House Museum Committee purchased the house in the late 80s after Dr Poo’s daughter passed away and the contents of the home were put on auction. Dr Poo was the town doctor and druggist of that era. The museum committee purchased the residence and created it to bring the history of Okawville to the community and agreed to have items on loan from patrons throughout the community. The museum has now chosen to have the house and lot sold due to the cost of maintenance and upkeep of the museum.
The items currently in the house belonged to families and businesses throughout the community who had purchased items from that era and allowed the museum to use them for display purposes. Many items have been returned to the original owners including hundreds of pictures. Some items are owned by the Heritage Museum and those items will be going on auction at either Jim Lehde Auction Service or Asselmeier Mae Auction Service at a later date.
The school received the heirlooms that were in the house including yearbooks, pictures, and old uniforms. If you are interested in any of the items please contact the realtor or auction service for further information.
