The Voice of Democracy is a long-standing Veterans of Foreign Wars premier scholarship program. It is open to any student in grades 9-12 in the United States or a U.S. military child overseas. This year’s prompt was, “Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision?” The juniors at OHS participated in this program by writing an essay on the topic and presenting that essay in a 3-5 minute speech. The local VFW Post then conducted the contest of selecting 15 entries. The top three entries from OHS were James d’Entremont, Caroline Tepe, and Aubrey Krieger. The entry from OHS that took 1st place was James d’Entremont. His essay and speech have been sent to the district level. If it advances it will go to the state competition or national competition. The national competition award winner can receive a $35,000 award. We wish James the best of luck throughout the rest of the competition!
