Every year, on the last Wednesday of February, the Okawville Launch Pad and Timepiece staff attend the Southern Illinois School Press Association (SISPA) Winter Conference at SIU-C. At SISPA, students learn about different areas of Journalism and compete in various competitions related to Journalism and Yearbook. This can help them prepare for the IHSA Journalism Competition, as well as improve their abilities in photography, writing, editing, and more.
Many students at Okawville competed in some of these competitions. Three students placed, including: Laura Cook – 2nd place copy editing, Kate Borrenpohl – 3rd place sports writing, Rylan Senior – 3rd place yearbook feature story for a story that will appear in the 24-25 edition of Timepiece. Congratulations to these students!
