Okawville sent ten of their very own to become diplomats for three days at the McKendree Model UN spring conference. Among the students were Delaney Kuhn in 1st disarmament, Maddie Dulle in 3rd SCH, Kayla Crouch and Carly Schmidt in Ecosoc, Jared Bollmeier in SciTech, Claire Dulle in Human Rights Council, Sarah Cook in Security Council, Emma Hokeness and Ellyson Hesker in General Assembly, and Laura Cook in WHO. They each represented Russia or Afghanistan in their committees and passed many resolutions to solve the world crisis. Before the conference, the students, or delegates, are given the duty to write up a resolution or proposed idea on how their committee can solve a global issue in one of four given topics. Then, during the first two days of the conference, along with their fellow delegates, discuss which topics they want to talk about first and which resolutions they want to pass. They amend and vote until they finally pass a resolution. Then, the process starts all over again, this time with a new topic. Finally, on the third day of the conference, multiple committees are grouped and are given a crisis to solve. They are given just a few hours to ensure the people’s or even the entire countries safety. Then, the awards for the most outstanding delegations are given out. Laura Cook was the only one given an award for being an exemplary delegate, but we are proud of all of our students who attended and wish them luck in next year’s fall conference.
