The Junior High Track team had their state meet on May 10th at Murphysboro, IL. The field events started at 9:30 a.m. Participants in field events were Lydia Waltrip (shot put) and Rigden Senior (high jump). Lydia Waltrip placed 11th for girls’ shot put, with a throw of 28‘7″. Rigden Senior placed 10th for boys’ high jump, with a jump of 5’2″. These were the only Okawville people who qualified for field events.
The running events started around 11:30 a.m. The first event was the girls’/boys’ 100-meter hurdles. Rigden Senior placed 4th for the boys’ 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 16.21. Following the 100-meter hurdles was the girls’/boys’ 7th-grade 4×200 relay. Next was the girls’/boys’ 4×100 relay. Emme Hasheider, Brooklyn Meier, Lydia Waltrip, and Kylie Klingenberg placed 3rd for the girls 4×100 relay, with a time of 53.44. Following the 4×100 relay was the 400-meter dash. Rigden Senior placed 7th in the boys’ 400-meter dash, with a time of 57.65. Next was the girls’/boys’ 1600-meter run. Ransom Lugge placed 6th for the boys’ 1600-meter run, at 5:13.38. Following the 1600-meter run was the girls/boys 8th-grade 4×200 relay. Emme Hasheider, Brooklyn Meier, Lydia Waltrip, and Kylie Klingenberg placed 2nd for the girls’ 4×200 relay, with a time of 1:54.72. Next was the girls’/boys’ 100-meter dash. Kylie Klingenberg placed 12th for the girls’ 7th-grade 100-meter dash, with a time of 14.46. Rigden Senior placed 20th for the boys’ 8th-grade 100-meter dash, with a time of 13.16. Following the 100-meter dash was the girls’/boys’ 800-meter run. There were no Okawville participants who qualified for the 800-meter run. Next was the girls’/boys’ 200-meter dash. There were no Okawville participants who qualified for the 200-meter dash. Ending the state meet was the girls’/boys’ 4×400 relay. Kyle Bollmeier, Caden Capecchi, Cole Matlock, and Ransom Lugge placed 16th in the boys’ 4×400 relay, with a time of 4:44.89. Emme Hasheider, Brooklyn Meier, Jayleigh Cooley, and Kylie Klingenberg placed 2nd in the girls’ 4×400 relay, with a time of 4:28.14. The Okawville boys’ team placed 16th overall at the state meet. The Okawville girls’ team placed 7th overall at the state meet.
The Okawville Junior High Track team was very successful this season, with kids getting new personal records or even setting new school records throughout their season. We are very proud of the Junior High Track team for finishing their season out strong. Great Job, Rockets!
