The High School Cross Country teams are about to kick off their season! High schoolers started practicing in July. Next week will be the start of High School Cross Country. Their first meet was scheduled for August 25, at New Athens. This meet started at 6:00 p.m. Due to the heat last year, this meet was cancelled. The Cross Country team will also have a meet on August 30, at Mascoutah. This meet will start at 9:00 a.m.
Cross-country is a sport where individual students and teams compete in a race that may involve hills, varied terrain, dirt paths, and even challenging weather conditions, such as rain or snow. Junior high students run about 1.8 miles. High school students run 3 miles. Although cross-country involves running, some mighty rockets enjoy the running activity to improve in other sports, or even just to get stronger.
This year, our High School Cross Country team has a total of 17 students. The boys are Brenden Heizer (9th), Brett Henderson (9th), Ransom Lugge (9th), Clayton Maynard (11th), Gabriel Charles (11th), Kaden Buehler (11th), Ryker Obermeier (12th), and Zander Hasheider (12th). The girls are Lucy Pille (9th), Skyler Wilfong (9th), Emma Hokeness (10th), Katelyn Gogolek (10th), Kaylee Wolf (10th), Taylor Statler (10th), Sophia Wood (10th), Madisyn Rennegarbe (12th), and Caroline Tepe (12th). We hope that these students will be very successful in their season this year, and they will work hard and be O-some. Good Luck, Rockets, on a great season!
