This year, the biannual Riechmann Farm Auction took place on Saturday, August 16. The auction lets many farmers sell and buy farm equipment. It began at 8:00 a.m. and lasted until approximately 5:00 p.m. at the Okawville Community Park. The Okawville FFA helped with parking for this event, and the Student Leadership Team helped serve food during the auction. I asked Student Leadership Team member, Brynn Rhodes, why SLT helps serve food at the farm auction and how it benefits her. She replied, “SLT serves at the farm auction because they need volunteers, and this allows us to be leaders and help the community. It benefits us because we get to help serve the people of the community and interact with them, and we get the opportunity to use this for community service hours.” I also asked FFA member Kate Borrenpohl what she did for FFA at the farm auction and why. She stated, “We enjoy helping park vehicles for the auction because it is a good way to get our program out into the community, and farmers and other community members love to see us helping and volunteering our time.” This event is an excellent opportunity for students to fulfill their community service hours. After all, the farm auction was a great success!
