Have you ever had an embarrassing loud stomach growl and you’re starving, but it’s the middle of the day? Well, you’re in luck, because the snack cart can come and fulfill your hunger! The snack cart is an educational project for Mrs. Dressler’s class, where they learn how to count money and new business skills for future jobs. On Monday and Wednesday during 5th hour, be on the lookout for the snack cart! At that time, they will supply you with a delicious afternoon snack. If you would rather get something to eat in the morning, every Tuesday and Thursday, the snack cart is located in front of the art room doors to sell breakfast foods to students.
This past year, Mrs. Dressler conducted a survey that asked students about certain foods they’d like to have for this year’s snack cart. The snack cart offers a variety of chips, candy, and soda. Chips are $1.00, candy is $1.50, and soda is $0.50. Some newer items being sold are juice smoothies and protein shakes.
All of the students working for the snack cart had positive things to say about it. Sarah Bornemann, in particular, said, “I enjoy having new interactions with friends and classmates every day.” Mrs. Dressler explains, “The reason the snack cart was brought to our school was from a push from the principals at the time. Also, it helps the students tremendously in improving their social skills.”
Several kids in classes purchase items from the snack cart. One thing students like is the prices. For example, chips in the cafeteria are $1.50, while on the snack cart, they are only $1.00.
Some schools have vending machines, but at Okawville, we have a much more personal experience where students get to interact with one another.
