This year, Addieville Jaycees celebrated their 150th anniversary with the Addieville Picnic, which was held on August 25. It began at 7:00 A.M and lasted until around midnight. The morning started off with a 5k run. Following the run was a softball tournament, which started at 10:30 A.M., and a bags tournament that began around 1:00 P.M. Food like chicken strips, cheeseburgers, pork burgers, fish, and fries were served from 10:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. However, at 2:00 P.M., the pork steak dinner began, where they served pork steak, German potato salad, coleslaw, and more. Throughout the day, there was live music being played by Hot Rod Johnny, The Venedy Band, and Backwoods. They had many different activities for kids, including a kiddie tractor pull at 3:00 P.M. and an escape room, corn box, and bounce house all day. The night ended with a spectacular fireworks show. During the picnic, FFA emptied trash cans and SLT sold sodas. I asked SLT member Brooklyn Meier why do you think it’s important that SLT helped sell soda at the Addiville Picnic. She replied, “I think it’s important that SLT helps with the soda stand so that we can stay involved in the community.” I also asked FFA member Khloe Geppert why she thought it was important that FFA emptied trash cans at the Addiville picnic, and she said, “I think it’s important because FFA should be a role model and leaders for the community, so helping keep the park clean is a big part of that.” Overall, the picnic was a huge success and a great opportunity for students to volunteer in the community.
