Mrs. Albers, the school nurse, has been working at Okawville Jr./Sr. High School for over 32 years and is retiring at the end of the week. She has decided to retire the week of her birthday, just as she had wanted. After giving over 32 years of helping our students, we are sad to see her leave our school.
In the past 32 years, Mrs. Albers has been such a crucial part of the staff. She didn’t just take care of students saying, “my stomach hurts,” “I scratched my legs,” and “my head hurts.” She didn’t just give out ice packs and Band-Aids. She took care of so many other things, too, such as height and weight records, vision and hearing, and all the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraisers. However, those are still just a few of the many things she did for our school.
Mrs. Albers wasn’t just a school nurse; she was a mentor and a role model. She was a great example of what students should strive to be later on in life. She was also someone students could look up to.
With this week being her last week working at Okawville Jr./Sr. High School, we have a week to celebrate her. On Monday, Mrs. Albers plans to give everyone a Dum Dum sucker at lunch. Tuesday is dress like Mrs. Albers day. For this, students can wear scrubs and a Rocket shirt to represent her. Students can also add some nurse accessories if they have access to any. On Wednesday, students and teachers will be donating money to give to one of Mrs. Albers’ favorite organizations. Thursday, it’s Mrs. Albers’s birthday, everyone will wish her a happy birthday and shower her with all her favorite items. Lastly, Friday is the day Mrs. Albers retires, so if you can, tell her thank you for all she has done for our school and community. On Friday at 2:15 pm, we will also be having a hallway parade and an assembly for Mrs. Albers. This parade will be live streamed on the Launch Pad Facebook page.
