The Varisty Lady Rockets attended the annual Labor Day tournament in New Athens. The tournament started on Friday, August 29th. They started the tournament with a game against Gibault, winning in two sets. The first set was 21-17, and the second set, they came out strong and got the win 21-9. Their second game was against Lebanon, and they won that game in two sets, with the first set ending 21-16 and the second set ending quickly with a score of 21-2. Starting the second day, the Lady Rockets were hot; they beat Wesclin in three sets. Set one went in favor of the Lady Rockets and put up the score 21-16; sadly, the second set didn’t go as well as they lost 21-15. The Rockets came out wanting the win and won the last set 16-14. The Lady Rockets needed one more win to head to the championship game. To achieve this, they had to beat New Athens High School. They ultimately reached their goal and defeated the Yellow Jackets in two sets. All players were nervous heading into the championship game against Red Bud High School, a team that happens to also be in their conference. Both teams came out with vengeance on their mind, but Red Bud came up short, and Okawville defeated them in two sets. This was the first time the Lady Rockets had ever won this tournament, and they will always remember it as they see the plaque they received.
