This year’s Wheat Fest was a hot one! First, we started with the amazing pageant. There were seven contestants for the title of Miss Okawville County Fair Queen. Adysen Harre won the title, and Madisyn Wienstroer was the First Runner Up. The Jr. Miss Okawville Fair Queen was Tyler Kuhn, along with the First Runner Up, Adalynn Wienstroer.
The Okawville parade ended with a bang! Even though the bands didn’t play due to the heat, we still had an amazing parade! This year’s parade float theme was Favorite Commercials–Old and New. Immanuel Lutheran took 3rd place with a Disney Float, 2nd place was Addieville Jaycees with Eat More Chicken Float, and the winner was Okawville Busy-Bees with Cat Herding. Okawville FFA also put in a flaot receiving 4th place for a “God Made a Farmer” themed float.
The clubs that worked or helped with the Wheat Fest were the FFA who sponsored the trash cans and the cornbox, the Clay Crushers Trapshooting team sold raffle tickets, Timepiece made and sold pies, the 4-H hosted the ice cream stand, the Freshman Class had a sand art fundraiser, former ILS students worked the kabob stand, Okawville students helped in the food stand, the Freshmen helped in the car show, and some students pulled in the Tractor Pull. Mrs. Schleifer even awarded students the volunteered their time at the Wheat Fest by snack cart passes, frozen Skis, and also giftcards. The Wheat Fest would not have been a success without the people of the community who volunteered!
