Every year the Okawville Jr/Sr High School has a scholastic book fair. The book fair started on March 19 until March 21. This year is extra special because on Thursday the 21st, the Lady Rocket basketball team came to read to all the kids at the book fair. They also signed items that the kids brought.
The PTO sponsors the double book fair for OGS and OHS every spring; this year they raised a little over $10,500 in sales. Thursday was the big Family Night, and the theme for this year was “Let’s Get Bright with Reading;” it was an 80s theme with many neon colors. Family Night included an after-school activity where families and the community were invited to attend the book fair and enjoy the fun activities that were present. This year at the book fair there were face painting, crafts, photo booths, tattoos, color pages, and a scavenger hunt.
The week before the book fair took place the “All for Books” coin collection took place. This is when the classes bring in money to compete against each other to raise money. Mrs. Storey’s 2nd-grade class was the winner of the competition, and they won a pizza party! The “All for Books” collection raised over $1,600 to be used towards new books for teachers and classrooms.
The money raised will help get new books for the school library and also allow the PTO to buy items like books, more seating options, technology, and more through the Scholastic Dollars catalog for teachers.
