This year, the Sectional Competition for the Academic Challenge for Engineering and Science team was held at South Western Illinois College on March 6. Okawville’s ACES team won first place at sectionals and just won second place at regionals. On April 20 Okawville High School’s team will go and compete at state. At regionals, Lindsey Averbeck placed first individually in physics, and Megan Cook placed second in physics. Ashley Langenstein placed second in biology, and Cheyenne Ellerbusch won third place in biology. At the competition at SWIC, Ethan Eckert placed third in computer science, and Daniel Jansen won third place in math. Okawville High School’s biology teacher Mrs. Hormann is the ACES team’s coach and chaperone. She was able to help lead the team to a second place victory at this year’s regional competition. Since Okawville’s ACES team won second at regionals, they will be going to the state competition next.
