On Monday, October 19, the IHSA board of directors sat down for their regular virtual meeting. They voted to provide a one-time accommodation to the IHSA’s Independent Team By-law. The one-time accommodation is eligible for the 2020-2021 school year, and will only give certain exceptions to spring and summer season sports. “The Board determined it was prudent to make modifications to the independent team by-law for the sports that were displaced from their traditional high school season,” said Craig Anderson, IHSA Executive Director.

The one-time accommodation stated that athletes competing in the IHSA’s 2021 spring season will be allowed to participate on school and non-school teams throughout the length of their high school season. Also, athletes competing in the IHSA’s 2021 summer season will be allowed to play on school and non-school teams starting June 4. The summer season is projected to go from April 19 to June 26. The board also met on October 28 to discuss more details about winter sports.
