Jr Rockets Play Ball!

Schae Juenger, JH Staff Writer

The Jr. High baseball team kicked off their season recently.  They are coached by Rick Gaebe and Jackie Smith.  The team consists of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.  The 6th graders are Aidan Killion, Ayden Foley, Caleb Hagarty, and Wesley Blanford.  The 7th graders consist of Clay Maynard, Blake Carrico, Kaden Buehler, Gunner Malott, Braylen Turner, and Jared Bollmeier.  The two 8th graders are Braxton Rennegarbe and Landen Shubert.

The Jr High Baseball team started their season with a 0-4 record.  Their first game was on Tuesday, August 17, at home vs Pinckneyville.  The Okawville Jr. Rockets lost 11-3. Their next game was on Wednesday, August 18, at home against the Wesclin Warriors. The Warriors won 18-8.  The Okawville Rockets then played at Mascoutah against the Mascoutah Indians on Friday, August 20, and lost 12-4.  Their most recent game was Wednesday, August 25, at home to take on the Carlyle Indians.  The Jr. Rockets came up short 9-0.

I asked Coach Gaebe what he thought about the season so far. “We are young because we had to bring up 6th graders this year.  We only have two 8th graders,” replied Gaebe. “We are going to struggle, but we are getting better.  We need to improve on our defense.  I am excited for these guys, and they will be good in the future.”

Good luck to the Jr Rockets as they continue through their season.
