FCA meets at the flagpole

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has started back up again, but this year with a little different look. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes had to take a year off last year due to the pandemic and not being able to hold meetings like normal. This year, the new teacher leaders are Mr. Reed Recker and Ms. Christy Hood. They took the positions after Mrs. Christy Sweet and Mr. Rick Gaebe stepped down from the position.

The first thing that FCA did was they elected student leaders. Students were required to fill out an application telling about themselves, what church they attend, and their relationship with God. The two teacher leaders chose who they felt would be the best for the club organization. They chose a little bit differently than most other clubs. Instead of having a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, they only had Co-Captains.

The 2021-2022 FCA Co-Captains are Ellie Frederking and Hannah Miller. Their jobs include presiding over all huddle meetings, planning fun events for the FCA to partake in, and being a leader to not just FCA members but to all students. They need to be someone that people can come to and talk about anything or even ask for advice.

On September 22, the FCA hosted See You At The Pole. It took place at 7:15 a.m. and they met around the flagpole in front of the school. See You At The Pole is a national holiday that all schools are encouraged to take part in. Ms. Hood gave a short devotional about prayer. Then Ellie and Hannah took turns praying over the nation, other countries, administration, friends, families, and people that gathered around the pole that morning.

I asked Co-Captain Ellie Frederking what she was most excited about now that we have FCA back in our school. She replied, “I am looking forward to our devotionals every month and seeing new members show up and getting to connect with other Christians.”
