Okawville Grade School Awarded the Blue Ribbon Award

Delaney Kuhn, JH Staff Writer

The Okawville Grade School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School which is an enormous honor. The Blue Ribbon award symbolizes a very hard-working school with hard-working teachers, students, and parents. Blue Ribbon schools are seen as an inspiration for other schools to follow. Okawville is one of 325 schools in the nation and one of 18 in Illinois to earn the award in 2021.

Okawville was specifically designated as an Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School by the U.S. Secretary of Education. There will be an awards ceremony Thursday, November 4 and Friday, November 5.

Some reasons why Okawville Grade School may have been selected for this award is the enrollment statistics going up. Specifically going up in 3rd-6th grade with Hispanic students going up by 4.5%, low-income students going up by 33.8%, and IEP or special education students going up by 9.3%. Good Job OGS and keep up the amazing work!
