Jr. Lady Rockets are Regional Champions!

Rylan Senior, JH Staff Writer

On Wednesday, January 12th, the Jr. High Girls Basketball team was supposed to play St. James for their first round of regionals. St. James had to forfeit due to COVID complications, so they continued on to the next round in regionals. In their second round of regionals, on Thursday, January 13th,  they played Valmeyer Jr. High, the Lady Rockets had won that game 44-15. They then played for the regional championship game on Saturday, January 15th, defeating Holy Childhood Mascoutah 48-27. They would then play their first game of the SIJHSAA Class S State Tournament on Saturday, January 22nd at Rend Lake College, taking on Summersville Grade School.

I asked 8th grader Caroline Tepe how she thought the team played at regionals and she said, “We were very determined to make our way to state! We had to keep our focus on winning the game to make good strong passes, rebounding, and making our shots.” I also asked 8th grader Kate Borrenpohl how she thinks they will do at State and she replied, “I think we will do pretty good. I believe in my team. We will have to focus and work hard together. One thing we have to think about is that we are going to be on a college court. I believe in our team and I think we can go far this year.”  This was the fourth consecutive year in a row the Jr. Lady Rockets have won their regional.  Good luck to the Jr. Lady Rockets at State!
