Rocket Basketball Comes to a Close

On February 19, the Rockets took a trip to Bluford for the Woodlawn 1A Regional. Okawville, the ninth seed, faced off against Bluford-Webber, the sixth seed. 

The game started off very intense. Both teams knew they had to leave it all on the court, and were fighting very hard to keep their seasons alive. After a fast first quarter, the Rockets began to slow down. By the middle of the second quarter, the Trojans started to pull away. The Rockets trailed the Trojans 22-12 at the half. 

After a strong first half for the Trojans, the Rockets came out and went on an early 7-0 run to lessen the Trojans’ lead to just three. The Trojans ended the run by playing very tough defense. The Trojans continued to pull away. In the last four minutes of the game, they went 8-10 from the free-throw line. The Rockets battled hard but were defeated by the Webber Township Trojans. The final score was 46-31. The Rockets sadly ended their season with a record of 11 wins and 21 losses. 

The Trojans went on to be defeated by Steeleville in the semifinal matchup on the 23rd. The Woodlawn 1A Regional championship matchup was between Steeleville and Edwards County. The Steeleville Warriors claimed the title of Regional Champions and advanced to sectionals.  Steeleville would then go on to win the Okawville 1A Sectional.  The Warriors also won the 1A Super-Sectional at the Southern Illinois University of Carbondale and advanced to the State Finals at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois.  Steeleville placed fourth at the State Finals on Thursday, March 10th.
