Okawville Adds Social Emotional Program

Addison Hasheider, JH Staff Writer

The point of AIM is to be mindful and present at the moment. Mindful means you’re here in the moment and are ready to be a part of what’s going on. Mindfulness doesn’t have to take a long time and you can be mindful anywhere. Just one minute can help us separate ourselves from our crazy lives. Many students focus too much time on the past and worry about the future and do not live in the present moment.

I interviewed Mrs. Amanda Ganey about the pros of the AIM, and she had this to say, “I feel like connecting mindful activities and learning how important being in the present moment is the key to success will definitely benefit students.”  She also stated, “When one’s mind is full and overwhelmed one can’t perform at the needed level to be successful.”

During homeroom, students and teachers are intrusted to take a short time out of the class to discuss the AIM program once a week.  So far, the program has been successful, and is hopeful for the future.
