Have you been wondering what is new with the OHS cheerleading team? Well, today is your lucky day! Along with all the traditions the cheer team does, there are a couple of new things this year. For example, this year we not only have one new coach, but two new coaches! The new coaches have been in cheerleading throughout their high school years and are determined to help all of the high school cheerleaders grow. Their names are Erin Wiedwilt and Kaly Huge. Both of them are currently employed by OGS and work as paraprofessionals. Erin graduated from OHS in 2018 and Kaly graduated from NCHS.
Along with the new coaches are new cheerleaders! The cheer team gained 3 new cheerleaders this year: Julia Helbig, Bella Muniz, and Addyson Rennegarbe. They have been working hard to learn all of the cheers and show their school pride. The OHS cheerleading team wouldn’t be complete without the rest of the cheerleaders: Alyssa Statler, Payton Meier, Sidney Charles, Madi Epplin, Aliva Cochran, and Alexis Jarden.
On another exciting note, the OHS cheerleaders are having their annual cheer clinic. The cheer clinic theme this year is generations. Each group of mini cheerleaders will be given a generation, and the cheerleaders will make up and teach a dance to a song from that generation. We’re all excited to see what the cheerleaders come up with and can’t wait to see all of those mini cheerleaders! The mini cheerleaders are the K-5 students of OGS, and if you want to come and watch the mini cheerleaders perform, then make sure to come to the OHS varsity boys basketball game during halftime on February 3, 2024.
