The Okawville High School track and field team started off their season strong with their first meet at Red Bud High School. Tuesday, March 19th was a beautiful day to run, jump, and throw. Many members on the team put up some impressive stats early in the season.
For the girls’ team, Caroline Tepe earned first place in both the 400m (1:03.94) and the 800m (2:28.6), Nora Wood took first in the mile (6:50.1) and second in shot-put (29’5”), Sidney Charles placed second in both the mile (6:54.7) and the two-mile (14:52.1), Lydia Luechtefeld place first in the 300m hurdles (52.34s) and second in the 100m (14.0s), Payton Meier placed 4th in high-jump (4’8”), Lauren Haacke placed 5th in the 100 (14.7s), Alyssa Statler placed third in the 100m hurdles (18.3s), and Aubrey Krieger placed fifth in the 100m hurdles (20.6s). The girls’ team also swept most of the relays earning first place in the 4x800m, the 4x100m, and the 4x400m. All of their effort earned them first place by a margin of 45 points out of ten teams.
The boys’ team walked away with fourth place as a team with some exciting results of their own. Nolan Frantz won first in the 300m hurdles (44.54s) and first in the 110 hurdles (17.6s), Ryker Obermeier placed fourth in both the 800m (2:19.2) and the mile (5:27.7), Kaden Buehler took sixth place in the 800m (2:32.6), Zander Hasheider placed third in the two-mile (13:10.4), Gabe Charles had fourth in the two-mile (15:58), Kade Jackson earned fifth in the 300m hurdles (51.64), and Landon Shubert placed third in high jump (5’4”). The boys also took second place in both the 4x800m relay and the 4x400m relay. There is a lot of work to be done yet, but the team is showing great promise this year. Though they are young, this is a team to watch. “I feel like it was a very successful first meet, and I feel like our juniors and seniors showed up to race and our freshmen and sophomores have a lot of potential.” Their next meet will take place at Breese Central on Thursday, March 28th at noon.
