On Friday, November 9th at 12:15 at Okawville Jr. Sr. High School there will be a Veterans’ Day assembly, where students will learn more about Veterans’ Day.  Our own Mr. Gaebe, who is one of the teachers who organized this event, answered some questions. I first asked him why he wanted to do this he said, “In the time I have taught here we have never done anything like this and I thought it would be a good experience for the kids.”  Next, I asked what this assembly will be about he replied, “It will be about why we should honor any veterans and the military in whole, also at this assembly the band is going to play and the chorus will sing some songs.” Then I asked who will be coming to speak he said “Master Sergeant Shane Wagner from the Air Force who will talk about the history of Veterans’ Day and flag etiquette and Lt. Sung Nuygen from the Navy.”  Lastly, I asked what he is hoping the kids will learn from this assembly Mr. Gaebe replied, “I hope they will gain a deeper appreciation for Veterans’ Day and that it is not just another day off. I also hope they realize there are people around here who serve for our military.”
