Rockets Begin Practice for a New Season

Nicholas Rulevish, Editor

The Boys Varsity and JV basketball seasons are beginning to start up again. They have completed conditioning and are now officially practicing. The JV and Varsity teams practice together and last year some of those who practiced with fresh-soph came up to practice with them. It should be considered a privilege to practice with JV and Varsity as a sophomore and even more of one as a freshman.

Last year the Rockets put on a show for the fans and the rest of the state at the IHSA State basketball championship. They won first place, beating Annawan in the final game of the year to win the trophy. This year they hope to repeat that success. Even with the big loss of Luke Hensler, Caleb Frederking, and Payten Harre, this year’s team is looking to take a deep run in the postseason once again. The likely starters this year will be Wyatt Krohne, Will Aubel, Lane Schilling, Jackson Heckert, and Lucas Frederking.

The coaching staff is the same from a year ago. Jon Kraus is the head coach of the Varsity team, Ryan Heck is the coach of the JV team, Cameron Obermeier is the head coach of the fresh-soph teams, and Jackie Smith and Mike Frederking are assistant coaches. The first game is a Varsity game and just so happens to be a tournament game. The tourney is the Kaskaskia Classic on November 24th. Their first regular season game is a home game against Sesser-Valier at 7:45. Come out and support the boys.
