The Rockets Ride to Supers

Nicholas Rulevish, Editor-in-Chief

The Rockets in year’s past have been very successful and added on to that success this season. Even though they didn’t make it to State, it’s still quite impressive what they were able to accomplish. They pulled off another Regional championship beating Lebanon in the first round, Gibault in the second, and Marissa by one point in the championship game. This was the fifth year in a row they’d won Regionals.

Sectionals took place on our home court in Okawville. The first game was against the Winchester in which the Rockets won by seventeen points. The Rockets were projected to lose the game by twenty but proved those people wrong. In the Sectional championship, they played the Madison Trojans. The Trojans had beaten Okawville earlier in the season during the Okawville Invitational by one point. Not this time though. The Rockets rallied in the fourth quarter to upset Madison. Madison was definitely the favorite in this game. This was the third straight year that the Rockets had won their Sectional.

Then it was onto Super Sectionals. Super Sectionals was taken place at the Jacksonville Bowl which is about two hours north of Okawville. The Jacksonville gym was completely full of fans. The opposing team was the Triopia Trojans. The Rockets started the game with a 7-0 run. That run was quick, but not long lasting. At the end of the half, the Rockets were only up by one point. The end of regulation came down to a last second shot by one of the Trojans guards in the corner. The Trojans were down by three until he hit the shot. This game went into overtime. The Rockets sadly went down by seven. Although they cut the lead down to three, it wasn’t enough to defeat Triopia. Despite the loss Okawville had a great season. Not many expected quite a long run into the playoffs. They added many plaques into the trophy case.
