On Saturday, November 16, FCA volunteered to rake leaves for the community. First, the members of FCA met at noon at the American Legion in Okawville to gather together and eat pizza. After finishing their pizza, their first stop was Bill Riechmann’s house and they raked the leaves in his yard. Next, they raked leaves at Lisa Kuhn’s house. The last house they raked leaves for was Mrs. Lintker’s parents’ house, Ray and Janet Borrenpohl. After all three houses, there were about 10-12 truckloads of leaves. Around 25 students helped out throughout the day. Everyone brought rakes and some brought tarps to make it easier to load the leaves onto the bed of trucks. Once they were done, the students felt good about themselves, despite being tired and sore. This simple act of kindness builds the community with a sense of belonging because of their helpfulness to others.
